soooooo hot!!!!

hey all,

omg as I am sitting here typing this i feel like i am melting onto the floor! It is so so so so hot! one of those really still hot days, with just the sun and no wind! anyway, moving on, hehe.

I just thought i would update you all on whats been happening in the land of kel over the past few weeks!

After white water rafting we went bowling, which was so much fun, the kids really enjoyed it, and i surprised myself by actually not being too bad at it! I got two strikes and I DIDNT EVEN USE THE BUMPERS!!!! i was so impressed with myself! Since i last wrote, I have also experienced Independence day in America on July the 4th! As it is election year this year in America, the whole camp held a mock election campaign, and the kids were given the opportunity to vote for either Obama or McCaine. In the end, Obama was voted the winner for our camp. Each cabin was also assigned a state that they had to represent in the parade, and we were given West Virginia, "The Mountain State" so we dressed all of our girls in dark coloured shorts and green tops to signify the mountains, and they all wore their hair in braids, and green glitter on their eyes and had west virginia written down their legs. They loopked really awesome! It really is true what people say about Americans, they really are patriotic, especially on independence day!!!! After dinner and services, they had fireworks down by the pool which was really beautiful (that is one of the photos i put up!)

We also had colour war, which is basically a day when the whole camp splits into two teams - red or blue, and for that whole day, the two tams compete against each other in a huge range of activities across camp. The best bit was deciding which campers in our cabin were going to be on each team because during the middle of the night before, my co counsellor and i had to go around and paint on the kids while they were sleeping with either red or blue paint. I did the blue team, as i was on blue team....and it was so funny because everytime i tried to paint on the girls in the blue team, they would twitch and start to wake up and i would have to try and control myself from laughing hysterically!

The day the first session campers were to leave was a bit scary because when us counsellors were having a meeting during the beach party, an airhorn went off at the waterfront, signalling that a camper was missing. It was probably the single most scariest experience of my life. We all had to bolt to the waterfront and run straight to the water to do the shallow and deep water searches! It was so scary scraping my feet through the water, I honestly thought I was going to touch the boy that was missing and that he would be dead. But before we got completely through the water search, the boy was found safe and sound in his cabin....he just hadnt told anyone he was going to the cabin, which he ended up in a huge amount of trouble for.

The day my first session girls left was so so emotional...I miss them so much already even though i now have a whole new group of campers. There were a lot of tears and alot of hugs, and pretty much no sleep for 48 hours! My new campers are awesome...they have nearly been here for a week now. I have 3 girls from Venezuela which is quite challenging, as they do not speak much english at all, and are always speaking spanish between themselves!

We have done our campout this week which wa salot of fun. I never thought i would here myself say that about camping, but it really was fun :) i feel like i bonded alot with the new campers which was good :)

I have just gotten back from my day off which was really fun. Me, Sian, Hannah and Aaron went into hendersonville and hired a hotel for the night. I actually wasnt feeling very well when we went so while the others got their hair done, i treated myself to getting my nails done! :) it was so relaxing and they look so pretty! they are probably not the most practical length for camp, but it made me feel alot better at the time so thats all that counts :) We also went to see the first screening of the new Batman movie, "The Dark Night", at midnight, so I am very tired today! There were such massive queues because it was the first screening, and heaps of people were dressed up like batman! I never knew there were so many people living in the small town of hendersonville hehe :) The actual movie was amazing! It was sad seeing heath ledger but his performance was absolutely phenomenal (even if very creep at times!) And I'm not just saying that because of what happened to him, he truly was amazing and i would reccomend the movie to everyone! loved it!

Anyway, I could go on for hours but I'm probably boring you all so I'm going to go now!

I miss you all so much, and cant wait to hear more news from home!

Three more weeks and then i get to travel! YAY! so excited!

love you all,

kel xoxo
